Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Dead Whisky Society 70cl / 53.3%
One of the best Banff's ever bottled. A 1971 37 year old bottled by defunct indie bottlers the Dead Whisky Society. Not much is known about this company but what we do know is that they released some exceptional malts & grains all from closed distilleries. We have opened a few of these including one when we exhibited at The Whisky Show - Old & Rare in February 2017. It was one of the best selling drams at our stand and was up against some legendary whiskies.
Banff distillery had gone through thick & thin since it was first established back in 1824. Several fire incidents occurred including one on the 9th may 1877 and on the 16th August 1941 during WW2 it was bombed by a German plane. Disaster struck again on 3rd October 1959 when an explosion ripped through the distillery wrecking the spirit still.
After rebuilding and all the repairs over the years, like many of the distilleries in Scotland the doors closed for the last time in 1983. When the distillery was in full production the liquid contributed to Slater Rodger blend. The only known 'official' if we can call it an official bottling is a 1982 21 year old bottled in 2001 by Diageo for their Rare Malts Selection. The only other way to try this historic malt is examples such as this interdependent bottling. So a big thanks to the Dead Whisky Society for sharing this epic single cask, cask strength Banff.
