One of the more divisive offerings from 2010's Special Releases. This is in fact an excellent Auchroisk that is just quite difficult and takes time and careful water addition to really understand. One for those who like to wrestle their drams. More Details
This Benrinnes was distilled in 1985 and matured for 23 years in Sherry Wood. Bottled in 2009 at 58.8% Vol. A rare official expression, this is a great example of how Benrinnes can be a masterclass in controlled, focused power and flavour. More Details
A sherry matured, 1987 cask of Bowmore from Douglas Laing that shows all the hallmark 1980s characters of this distillery but with an added emphasis on peat and sherry that tames the more perfumy edges of the spirit. However, this still remains a very love it or loathe it style. Well worth trying if you've never experienced such a thing before. Good cask selection by DL. More Details
A dark and unctuous 36yo belter of a Bunnahabhain from the ever dependable Douglas Laing. Thick notes of dark fruits and luscious sherry balance out with the underlying distillery character really beautifully with a wonderful resinous coastal character coming through in the finish. Another brilliant old sherried Bunnahabhain. More Details
Part of the 2010 special releases, this Cragganmore comes from a small batch of Refill American Oak Casks and was one of the most understated and elegant of last year's releases. Like many of Diageo's malts, Cragganmore just seems to show so much more when it is released at full strength. This 21yo is packed full of flavor and character and is well worth the plunge. A new addition to the standard range as of March 2010, this is one of the best and most fairly priced official 40yo bottlings in the whiskysphere. A complex, elegant and stunningly composed cocktail of aged notes, sherry, distillery character and balance. Yet another shining star in the Glenfarclas crown. More Details
This is from last year's special releases and, like many of Diageo's 'lighter' malts, shows that Glenkinchie is a different animal entirely when not diluted down to 40%. This is a wonderful example of the make, elegant, spicy, complex and delicious. Well worth trying if you want to see a more genuine side to Glenkinchie. More Details
A limited edition 23yo Pulteney that has matured in Bourbon casks. A wild, coastal and honey driven expression of this fantastic and fulsome coastal highlander. A breed of whisky that is sadly thin on the ground these days. More Details
Pittyvaich is another of these rarely seen malts which is a shame because, as this bottling shows, they can be very fine drams. This one has some thick woody tones with big hints of honey, salt, vanilla and a background lick of peat. Big and boisterous with a respectable austerity about it. More Details
