One of the characteristics of Islay malt whisky is its peatiness, usually attributed to the water used to make the whisky and the peat levels in the soil where the barley is grown. Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Caol Ila all produce heavily peated whiskies, whereas Bruichladdich and Bunnahabhain generally tend to produce lighter whiskies with lower peat levels.
Bowmore whisky tends to have a more balanced whisky with medium levels of peat. Kilcohoman, which started production in 2006 and is the only inland distillery on the island, recently released their first 3 year old whisky.
A reeking, seashore driven, tarfest of an Ardbeg from Douglas Laing. This is yet another legendary whisky from yet another legendary vintage from Ardbeg. Hauntingly brilliant whisky by any measure. More Details
Ardbeg 1974 bottled at 40% after 29 years in cask by G&M for the Connoisseur's Choice range. G&M have been criticised for bottling so many Ardbegs at lower strengths like this one. But they are consistently fantastic and there is something about Ardbeg that shines at lower strengths as well as cask strength. Its always interesting to taste these bottlings and they are at very inviting prices for the quality. More Details

A 1975 sherry hogshead of Ardbeg bottled at 26 years of age in 2002. As with most of these early single casks there isn't much left to say about them. All you can really say is that this is just great old Ardbeg. A style has become infamous for its almost unparalleled quality and potency of character. If you taste one, you'll understand. This one is up there with the best. More Details
A 1990 sherry butt of Ardbeg bottled for Fortnum & Masons in 2006. Clean, classy and lively 90s style Ardbeg but with a great, rich sherry twist. There are barely any sherry expressions of the early 90s Ardbeg so this is a fascinating and rare dram. More Details

This was a committee only bottling from over ten years ago. It was comprised of 12 casks from 1978 and 79. The result is, as you might expect a fantastic, latter day style Ardbeg with a huge delivery and concentration of flavor. Kind of like a cask strength version of the 1978 vintage. More Details
The Corryvreckan was brought in to replace the much lamented 1990 vintage. Thankfully this is a powerhouse classic Ardbeg that draws on a multitude of cask styles for its recipe. It is oily, thick, sweet, medicinal and tarry with rich phenols and smoke. Top notch modern Ardbeg. More Details
Done to celebrate 10 years of the committee. A vatting of different casks at different ages. The result is a very tarry, very coastal and very big Ardbeg that wears its youth quite deftly. A great dram. More Details
Controversial and divisive among Ardbeg lovers, this 'happy accident' mix of Glen Moray and Ardbeg is nevertheless a very fine dram when you strip away all the chatter around it. Soft, peaty and honied with a wonderful sea air zing. Well worth trying. More Details

A rare old flagon of 10yo Bowmore from 1990. These little one off Bowmores were all great and usually contained a fair proportion of older malt whisky. Tropical glory in nifty ceramic packaging. More Details
