Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Old Glenfiddich by nature is dry, deftly waxy, subtly mineraled and filled with notes of honeycomb, green apples, soot, light peat smoke and gloriously elegant white fruits and grass.
However, what this one from so long ago, that was probably distilled sometime in the 1910s, is anyones guess. The few whiskies that I've been fortunate enough to taste from this era are very different from any other whiskies ever. They show lots of very oily aspects like paraffin and camphor with glazed fruit notes, very old desiccated phenol and peat qualities and notes of something like a barley eau de vie and metal. So much time in the glass is undoubtedly a huge influence but the basic character of such an ancient style of whisky making is undeniable and incredible to experience.
