Product Description
Ardbeg 1974 aged 31 Year Old from Cask 4985 Cask type Bourbon, Bottled 2006 with a limited run of only 93 Bottles.
Official Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep Gold.
Aroma: Comples and remarkably sweet and creamy for an Ardbeg with lots of fudge, creme caramel, chocolate and lashings of double cream. Fragrant smoke from burning incense rises above the sweetness followed by a burst of zesty lemon syrup. After a moment or two, further sweet and luscious aromas escape from the liquid with a crescendo of rich fruits, including plum skins, chocolate limes and orange peel,
With water, the smokiness increases in intensity with peat reek, heather broom and tarry railway sleepers. Beneath the smoke, deep and dark fruity liquorice emerges revealing plums and berry fruits (blackberries & blueberries) interwoven with the liquorice. Later tangy lemon and lime marmalade cuts through the deep fruits followed by honey lemon lozenges, waxy toffees and creme caramel. Hints of nuts are detected in the background with hazelnuts, coconut and pistachio, softened by vanilla pods.
Taste: The mouth feel is full, smooth and oily. The taste is intially fruity and chewy (with tangy limes and plum skins) with a trace of sea salt balanced by silky vanilla in the middle. It then evolves into a tangy mouth-coating effect with spicy and fruity sweets, developing into liquorice sticks and black coffee.
Finish: A long finish with lemon syrup, liquorice sticks and plum skins and hints of spiced sweets.
