‘This flagship Whiskey from the eponymous Buffalo Trace Distillery is one of the most rounded Bourbons available. Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley and his team select 50 barrels after they have aged for 8 -12 years in new, charred oak barrels and then have the arduous task of tasting every barrel against a master sample to ensure the whiskey hits the right taste profile.
The general profile for Buffalo Trace includes the four S’s – an initial Sweet and creamy taste with hints of peppery Spice that lead to Smooth vanilla and toffee notes and some pleasant Smokiness from the toasted oak. All these flavours are enveloped in a rich texture an a long, dry finish

Nose: Outstanding aroma kicked off by a spicy prickle. Satisfyingly deep, gentle vanilla-ed and molassed with even a sprig of mint.
Palate: A rip roaring waxy sweetness checked by a big build-up of vanilla-rich oak. Corn is chewy and rye offers a rich textured background.
Taste: Dries at last as the oak takes command, but rye offers extra depth and a layer of bitterness as does a lingering liquorice.
Comment: Big, moody, uncompromising and complex beyond belief.
