Production Notes.

Port Charlotte is a heavily peated single malt produced since 2001 at Bruichladdich distillery. It has been one of Bruichladdich’s more successful ventures since reopening as it has met with almost universal praise since appearing in various official and independent expressions. Produced, like Bruichladdich and Octomore, with a traditional double distillation regime, its difference lies in the peating level, it is peated to around 40ppm. Port Charlotte has so far been filled into a variety of cask types, mainly ex-Buffalo Trace fresh bourbon barrels but also a variety of different wine casks and, most notably, the tiny, hyper-active sherry casks known as ‘bloodtubs’.

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Finally a new and more 'long term' addition to the burgeoning Port Charlotte range. This is a 'multi-vintage' vatting of many casks that is presented, mercifully, in its natural, un-aced, form. A brillinat dram that is full of medicinal notes, oily, sprightly peat, green fruits and coastal notes. Taste this and you can see how brilliant this distillate is going to be by the time it hits its mid teens.

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The very first, and so far only, official single cask Port Charlotte to be released. This is a powerful and immensely grisly young Port Charlotte that manages to show all that power and gristy peat but at the same time some stunning fruitiness. This is going to be a legendary malt in another ten years.
